Method Community

Hi - I recently came back from a trade show where I scanned data from hundreds of attendees that included both new prospects (leads) and existing customers.  So some of these scanned contacts already exist in my method database and some do not.  At the trade show these people request us to send them information / samples or request a quote for a specific project.   Their request is stored in a notes field (text) 

Ideally, here's what I would like to do. 

1) if the customer exists (as determined by email address) - then update their existing data. if different,  Create an activity (date to be today) with the data in the notes section

2) if the customer does not exist - import them as a lead - IsleadStatusOnly = YES create an activity with the data in the notes section

How would I accomplish this??

Hi Dave,

The easiest way to do this would probably be to export your Customer table and do a compare in Excel to find the duplicates. You could then create two separate lists for import, one for updating current customers and another for creating new leads.

You could also create a custom table in Method and import to that, then create a screen to loop through that table and compare each email to every email in your Customer table. If the email is found, set a flag to denote that it's a current Customer. You'd then be able to filter and run actions based on that flag.
