Setting Default Activity Type and Status Not Working

    Setting Default Activity Type and Status Not Working

    I'm trying to set the default activity Type and Status for new activities created from the edit opportunity screen. It is not working for some reason.

    In the Edit Opportunity screen, under the New/Edit Activity Tab, I clicked on Edit next to the Activity Status Drop Down. The first step says "Not Started" is the default, which is what I want. Step 4 says the default is blank, and when I try to select "Not Started" it doesn't save when i click to the next step nor when I click save immediately. I also set the default in the My CRM Preferences tab on the Home Screen to "Not Started".

    But when I go to create a new activity from the Edit Opportunity screen, it still says "Completed" for the default status.

    The same this is happening when I try to change the default for the Activity Type in the Edit Opportunity Screen.

    Can anyone help?

    Hi Cameron,

    Sorry for the late reply. There is an action in the Clear / New button (within the More Actions... button, listed as an Event) that sets the Activity Status dropdown to "Completed". This action set gets called on screen load, so this is why you're experiencing this issue.

    Go ahead and change action 5 in this list to enter in whichever value you'd prefer.

    Thank you, this was helpful and i was able to achieve my goal. I was just wondering, since it requires I type in the Status rather than choosing from the

    list of statuses I have in the system, does it only populate the field with the typed phrase? Or is it converting it to the Status that has been set up if it is an exact match?

    Example:

    When I create a new activity, it gives me the option to select Complete or Not Started. These are Statuses that have settings that effect the filtering. So if I enter in exactly "Not Started", in action 5 as you metnioned, will that use the Status "Not Started" that was already set up with its filter settings? Likewaise, if I were to ass something that was not a Status alraedy, what would happen? Would it automatically be created as a status, or would it just populate the field with that phrase? It seems like it would have to have some kind of default filter.

    Basically i want to make sure that it shows up in the right filter.

    Hi Cameron,

    It just populates the dropdown field with what you've specified in the action. If it's not an option in the dropdown, you will get an error when you attempt to Save the Activity. If it is an option in the dropdown, it will get matched up to that entry.

    Could you describe some more about how your filtering works?

    Thanks! That answered my question. 

    Filter was the wrong terminology. MWhat I meant was, my "To Do" Activity Type is set up to show up on the calendar and to cause a reminder. I wanted to make sure that

    if I put "To Do" in that action that it would still show up on the calendar and cause a reminder.
