Closing books (Closing Method at the end of the month)

Hi. We have had some issues when we were adding bills to a time for which we have already balanced our books and we wish to be able to close Method to all changes after the end of the month.

QuickBooks offers a feature of setting a date to which we can close books to, but despite that we are able to upload our bills through the MethodAPI to the closed period. When we upload our bills, if the item is not able to be synced to QuickBooks, QB throws an error and the item doesn't get uploaded, but it is not happening for these items. QuickBooks Support was unable to help.

Any ideas how to get this feature to work?

    Thank you.

    Hi ITfromValor,

The API does not prevent transactions from being added to Method for closed periods.  Method will not sync transactions in closed periods as long as your QuickBooks file has a closing date password set.

For clarification on your problem, could you please verify -

    • Do you have a closing date password set on your QuickBooks file?
    • Is this an issue specifically with the API? Do bills created directly in Method for a closed period still get sync'ed over to QuickBooks?

    Cheers

    Jon

    Hi,

so if I understand it correctly, it will still add the bills to Method, it will just not sync them with QuickBooks?

And yes, we do have a password set for the closing date in QB

    - No, we are able to add returned items or input invoices dirrectly in Method to the closed period.

    - yes, even invoices entered in Method synced with QB

    Thank you for responding!

    Thanks for the clarification.

Yes - If you have a password set for the closing date in QuickBooks, the API will still add the bill to Method, however, the bill will not sync to QuickBooks (A conflict will be created to identify that you tried to create a transaction in a closed period).

Based on your respose, it sounds like you have transactions sync'ing over to QuickBooks for closed periods - even though you have the closing date set with a password.  This should not be happening.

If this is the case, I will have our team investigate this issue for you.
