Good Morning Maureen,
The Route menu allows you to either create a new route group or choose from your existing routes if you've already made them. This is essentially another way to sort the work order grid: by assigning multiple work orders to the same route name, you can find all the work orders pertaining to that route quickly and easily. Sort Order is similar, in that it's used as another way to sort the work order grid. Sometimes you will have multiple work orders for the same day, on the same route. Assigning a Sort order number to a work order will help to organize your work orders for that particular window of time.
As an example of when this would be useful: Ive created some work orders and assigned them to a Route called 'Piano Lesson', I can then navigate back to my Work Order List and add the Route field onto the grid (by clicking on the gear icon in the bottom right, and clicking the 'Route' checkbox), and search for only work orders under the 'Piano Lesson' Route - Making it easy to know which Work Orders to Add to a route!
Thanks Marueen.
