Method Community

We will be implementing Method while also starting with the desktop pro version of Quickbooks.  To create our initial customer list, we will would like to import our data from Constant Contact which contains almost all of our basic customer information.  I would like a recommendation as to whether it makes more sense to import this information into Quickbooks and allow it populate the Method Customer table, or if the data should be pulled into Method and allow it to populate Quickbooks.  I know that either way we will have much clean up and additions to do with the data, but if anyone has worked through the process and can recommend one approach over the other, I'd appreciate it.

Hi Mike,

I would recommend using Method's Import / Export tool, for which we have a Help Center article located here. In that article you will also find video tutorials on how to import Customers and Customer Leads specifically.

Thanks Justin - I'll check it out.  I had seen QB's new(ish) Constant Contact import feature so I was hoping that would save a couple of steps, but the priority is for it to come in correctly.  I'll take a look - thanks again.

If QB has an import feature specifically for Constant Contact, that may be the better route.

Either way you do it, the information will sync between Method and QuickBooks. If there's a tool specifically for the software you're importing from, use that, and the data should sync over to Method just fine.

Hi  Teahconnect,

From the scool of hard import knocks,  whther you use Method import feature or QB, to save yourself grief make sure that your names and addresses do not exceed expected field lengths.  I don't have them at my fingertips but if you google "field length for QuickBooks" you can find them.  I set up fields in Excel to do this. And when importing to Customer table, there is only one contact per customer. (QB will only allow one name) If multiple contacts then need to upload to Contacts table referencing the customer. 

If you intend to use any customer custom fields  in QB and are uploading, then set those up in QB first. Sync over. This makes them available in Method. Then you can import using those names if you upload thru Method.  If using custom fields in Method only, then you can generate these during the import process.

Considering these things done before you upload will make the experience much more pleasant and save you lots of time.
