    General questions potential new user

Can method connect via real time to my sql database and move data back and forth
If so can this be done within standard customization Selections
We are researching to see if method would be a good fit for us to use fornour crm interface and allow our users to login and manage there account with the portals, if so it must be real time updating the data on ourndatabase that our app is connected to.
We have 4 different customer types that we manage is it possible to have 4
different portal logins based on what customer type they are.?
Is it possible to have a customer create there own account online based on what customer type they are ex:  if they are customer type a: they would register on a different screen than customer type b etc.
What is defined as excessive portal usage
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Mortgenius,

    Mortgenius:
Can method connect via real time to my sql database and move data back and forth? If so can this be done within standard customization Selections?
Something like this is possible by utilizing the MethodAPI: For example create a web app which would use the MethodAPI in order to update Method CRM when there is a change in your SQL database. And using actions, e.g. Call Web Service, you can update your SQL database when you make a change in Method CRM.

    Mortgenius:

When you refer to your users, do you mean your employess who will be logging into Method and using it? Or do you mean Customers/Vendors who will be logging in to view/update their personal information, make payments, etc? If you're referring to employees then you would need to increase the amount of licensed subscribtions you want and create users for your employees. Realtime updating to your database from Method can be accomplished as stated above, even then the update will only happen when an event takes place to trigger an action, i.e. clicking Save/Submit. This is something that you would have to customize to suit your needs.

You won't have four different login portals for customers, just the stock one; and through customization you can show/hide different tab links based on who's logged in.

No, the portal login screen can't be edited/customized so everyone will see the same screen when logging in.

    Mortgenius:
What is defined as excessive portal usage?
Very heavy usage of portal sessions is rare (less than 1% of our users). A portal session is a 5 minute increment of continuous activity in a portal, so if you have a customer logged in for 6 minutes that would be 2 portal sessions. To be clear, staff logging into Method CRM regularly, using a non-portal login, are not counted; it's only counted when a special portal login is used, such as when a customer signs in to view or pay a bill. For very heavy usage, the first 500 portal sessions per month are free, and then are $0.15 thereafter.

Check out the Method API section on our website, specifically you would want the MethodAPI 2.0 Documentation. You should also watch our Customization Webinars which you would need to view on a Windows operating system, you'll also need to download the GoToMeeting codec. When you're customizing your screen you can add an object, such as a button, and add actions to it which will trigger on the event of it being clicked. This is what the Call Web Service action would look like when you're editing it. Additionally, since you know exactly what you need I would recommend you speak with one of our Consultants or an approved Method Solutions Provider, even if only for 30 minutes, just to scope out your project and figure out the best course of action to achieving it. Let me know if you would be interested in speaking with a Consultant so I can have one get in touch with you; just to be clear this would be a paid consulting session.
