Today we posted a small update of the Method Integration Engine (MEI). Here are the changes:
- At the beginning of a Changes-Only or Full synchronization it now clears the list of pending 'On Demand from QuickBooks' changes on that computer. Let me explain: as we detect changes that happen in QuickBooks we take note of them as they happen, and keep the changes in the log, waiting for the MEI to process them as soon as it gets a chance, one-by one - this is what provides the 'wow' of real time synching from QuickBooks to Method. But if the MEI is closed on this computer, we are still logging the changes as they happen in QuickBooks, and this log file can get pretty big if the MEI remains closed. Once MEI is opened it will process these changes, which can take a long time. This can be completely unnecessary if a Changes-Only or Full sync is done since all these changes will already have been captured. So now we wipe the log file as soon as a Changes-Only or Full sync begins to avoid unnecessary double-processing.
- Added Connect and Disconnect as options to the menu of the notification area icon. This came from feedback at the Scaling New Heights conference that users needed a quick way to stop the sync process so that they could switch between QuickBooks files.
- Changed the update process to only check for updates after the MEI opens, and only once every 3 days - this avoids the delay you used to experience every time the engine opened while it checked for updates.
